Evanston is the lakefront city just north of Chicago, home to Northwestern University. On a wedding day it becomes the backdrop for one of the most photographed moments of your life: the door opening, and the two of you stepping out.
Venues and portrait stops couples consider
- Sheridan Road. The lake on one side, grand old houses on the other, curving north toward the North Shore.
- Grosse Point Lighthouse. The 1873 light station at the north end of town, among the best photo backdrops on the shore.
- Northwestern's lakefront campus. Limestone, lawns and Lake Michigan, with Alice Millar Chapel close by.
- Downtown Evanston. Dinner along Davis Street and Sherman Avenue, then the slow way home.
Getting there: Sheridan Road and Lake Shore Drive connect it to downtown.
A wedding day in Evanston
Couples marrying in and around Evanston often think about ceremonies at Alice Millar Chapel on the Northwestern campus, portraits by the Grosse Point Lighthouse and the Sheridan Road drive north toward the Bahá’í House of Worship in Wilmette. Tell us where the ceremony, the portraits and the reception are, and we will plan the car around them. Please confirm photography permissions with each venue directly.
